How it was made VoiceFlow

I often talk to an AI for ten minutes or more at a time. With the voice input I used, one network hiccup and the whole passage was gone; the last few sentences often never appeared; if the cursor wasn’t in a text box, everything I said simply vanished. So I built one that runs entirely on my own computer: when I say the last word, the last word appears.

I wanted to turn a two-hour podcast episode into text so I could discuss it with an AI. The apps I tried either couldn’t handle the length or cost too much. I couldn’t code. That night I pressed Win+R anyway.

Practice

What I do each day is a vote for who I want to become

  1. Action

An idea is worth something once it is made

“In March 2026 I knew nothing about code. Little by little I used it to solve problems at work, then to build my own website and make what I wanted to show.”

  2. Compounding

    1% a day is 37 times in a year

“Reading, exercise, the long-haul things … the reward doesn’t come quickly, but every day put in is a day gained.”

  3. Process

The process itself is the reward

“If something takes self-discipline and willpower, it probably won’t last. … Just never skip it two days in a row.”

Three things

Reading

Six books, each read cover to cover

Open one to see what it says and what I took from it

The AlchemistPaulo CoelhoChinese edition: Nanhai, tr. Ding Wenlin

What I took from it

“When you truly want something, the whole universe comes to help. Whenever I am afraid or unsure of the way, I think of this book.”

What the book says

Santiago, a shepherd, sells his flock to chase a recurring dream of treasure across the desert. Its best-known line: when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.

How to Win Friends and Influence PeopleDale CarnegieChinese edition: China Friendship, tr. Yi Yan (complete)

What I took from it

“Care about people from the heart, and truly see things from their side. In the end, sincerity matters most.”

What the book says

Be genuinely interested in other people, see things from their point of view, and make them feel important, sincerely. Sincerity first, technique second.

A Dog Named MoneyBodo SchäferChinese edition: CITIC, tr. Wen Yi

What I took from it

“For the road to financial freedom, this is the first money book I would recommend.”

What the book says

A talking dog teaches a girl named Kira about money: she earns her first income looking after a dog, because she loves dogs; half of what she earns goes into a “goose” account that is never spent, so it can lay eggs.

Nonviolent CommunicationMarshall RosenbergChinese edition: Huaxia, tr. Liu Yi (revised)

What I took from it

“We often fear that saying what we need will get us attacked or make us look weak. Saying it honestly, without violence, is what matters most.”

What the book says

Keep four things apart when you speak: what you observed (without judging), what you feel, what you need, and what you ask for.

The Courage to Be DislikedIchiro Kishimi, Fumitake KogaChinese edition: China Machine Press, tr. Qu Haixia

What I took from it

“What I do is my task; whoever bears the result is responsible for it. What others think is their task.”

What the book says

Adler’s “separation of tasks”: whoever ultimately bears the consequence owns the task. Don’t intrude on other people’s tasks, and don’t let them intrude on yours.

Cognitive Awakening (认知觉醒)Zhou LingPosts & Telecom Press

What I took from it

“A book is truly read only when it changes how I think or act.”

What the book says

We have an instinctive brain, an emotional brain and a rational brain, and the first two are faster and stronger. Growth ranks: change > action > thinking > learning.

Three Douyin creators I watch

On my way to and from work

  • Jack

    Douyin: Jack要加油

On what to do when you feel lost or anxious

From his profile: “High-value updates every day … a daily read and a weekly roundup”

    Why I recommend them

“I came across his clips just after graduating. One line changed me a lot: when lost, anxious or in pain, not knowing what to do, go to the gym, read, make friends. I added one more: learn a skill.”

    Watch on Douyin Jack

  • Lu Damo

    Douyin: 鲁大魔

His own story as a founder, and how business works

From his profile: “Taught myself to code and build websites in 2003 … now I work in AI”

    Why I recommend them

“I have watched a lot of his videos: his story, and a lot of business thinking. I think they are excellent.”

    Watch on Douyin Lu Damo

  • Tongnian Zhongjiezhe

    Douyin: 童年终结者

Doing what you know, and how people really work at work

From his profile: “Just an ordinary person, with flaws, not perfect … our sixth year together”

    Why I recommend them

“On putting what you know into practice, and on how people work at work, so many of his videos are really good.”

Fitness

I recommend this three-day split

A three-day split by Kai Shengwang and Tan Chengyi, for beginners and for people who already train

Kai Shengwang

Douyin: 凯圣王

Six years of sharing the basics of training

Douyin series · 6 episodes · in Chinese

凯圣王-谭成义三分化 (three-day split)

Episode 1 · The plan · 21 min

First how to choose the lifts, how to plan the cycle and why it is designed this way; then a full day at a time, with common mistakes shown from a third camera.

Why this one

The plan, the follow-along sessions and the vocabulary are all in one series, so a beginner doesn’t have to piece things together. As of October 2026 it has more than 38 million plays and nearly 900,000 saves on Douyin.

Start with episode 1 凯圣王-谭成义三分化 (three-day split)

As heaven moves on, ceaselessly, so the noble keep striving

When I graduated, I had not yet touched AI. My university years were often uncertain; I asked the people I thought had the answers, and no reply came. Since then I have taught, run content, and tried many things, and slowly I understood: the answer is not with anyone else. It is in what we do each day.

So whenever I feel lost, I do three things: read, learn a skill, and train. A long video on the way to work, a podcast on the way home; whatever I cannot work out, I talk through slowly with Claude or ChatGPT. The books read and the words heard settle, little by little, into experience of my own.

I still believe in sincerity, in guarding my own energy, and in the compounding of time. Small steps, taken every day, are never wasted. No road walked is a wasted road; every step counts.
